This broken promise would cost my wife and I about $25 per week, or $100 per month. I say "would" because we haven't actually purchased any tobacco since the tax increase. We stocked up on bulk tobacco before the increase and will quit when the tobacco runs out... letting someone else, most likely non-smokers, to pick up the tax tab.
After enjoying smoking for over 3 decades, I am now forced to make a decision to either quit or pay much much higher taxes. A few years ago I was forced into the same decision when Governor Granholm of Michigan imposed a $20 per carton tax on cigarettes.
